A Fall Stay at The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans: Jazz, City Wandering & Festival Season

New Orleans is a city that makes me want to go exploring. A beautiful hotel gives me a reason to enjoy coming back.

My recent stay at The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans brought those two parts of travel together: city streets worth photographing, with lounge time, a spa pedicure, and live jazz woven into the visit.

And room-service chicken tenders. Because a luxury hotel doesn’t require a personality change.

For a fall getaway, this is the balance I’m after: somewhere special to stay, plenty to explore, and enough flexibility to enjoy both.

Staying at The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans

Set in the historic Maison Blanche building on Canal Street, The Ritz-Carlton offers a distinctive setting for a New Orleans stay. Its location gives you a starting point for exploring the French Quarter, while the hotel’s own spaces deserve some time on your itinerary.

I enjoy getting out with my camera, but I don’t want a hotel I’m excited about to become somewhere I only see while sleeping.

During this stay, I made time for the room, the lounge, the spa, and the music. Those moments became part of the trip rather than something squeezed in between everything else.

If you’re comparing accommodations, browse the hotel’s rooms and suites and check what is included in the specific rate you’re considering.

Maison Orleans Club Lounge: Something to Plan Around

My visit included time in the club lounge—one of the reasons I wanted room in the schedule to enjoy the hotel.

If lounge access matters to your stay, take a look at the hotel’s Maison Orleans Club information before booking. Confirm access and current inclusions for your chosen reservation rather than assuming every room includes them.

For me, a lounge stop fits nicely between outings. You can spend time exploring, return for a pause, and decide what sounds good next without making every hour a commitment.

A Spa Pedicure and Jazz at the Davenport Lounge

My stay also included a pedicure at The Ritz-Carlton Spa, New Orleans.

A little spa time fits surprisingly well into an exploring-heavy trip. It gives you a reason to slow down without needing to devote an entire day to staying inside. Check the current treatment menu and appointment availability directly with the spa.

Later, there was music at the Davenport Lounge. Having a jazz option within the hotel is an appealing part of the stay: another way to enjoy New Orleans without planning a separate outing.

Check the official dining page for current entertainment details before arranging your evening around a performance.

Exploring New Orleans in the Fall

For a fall visit, I’d leave room for walking, photography, and a few plans that depend on the weather.

Start with the French Quarter. Its architecture, galleries, and street scenes offer plenty of reasons to slow down and look around. You don’t need to turn every walk into a checklist.

My approach would be to choose a few places you want to see, then leave breathing room between them. That’s often when the best photographs happen.

Pack for the forecast rather than an idealized version of autumn. A light layer, shoes you already know are comfortable, and a small rain backup make a sensible starting point.

For longer outings, check the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority for routes, fare information, and service updates. Combine walking with transit or a ride when it suits your plans; there’s no prize for arriving exhausted.

Three Fall 2026 Events to Build a Visit Around

These are upcoming events to consider for your own trip, rather than events I attended during my hotel stay. Check the linked official pages before booking, since schedules and admission details can change.

Beignet Fest — November 7, 2026

For a food-centered outing, Beignet Fest takes place at the New Orleans City Park Festival Grounds.

The festival brings together sweet and savory beignet dishes, live music, and family activities while supporting the Beignet Fest Foundation’s work with the local autism community.

It’s an opportunity to make a festival the main event of the day, then return to the Ritz for a quieter evening. Find current admission options on the official ticket page.

LUNA Fête — November 13–15, 2026

For anyone who enjoys photography and seeing the city after dark, LUNA Fête is one to consider.

The 2026 festival runs from Gallier Hall to Piazza d’Italia, with projection mapping, illuminated artwork, performances, and this year’s theme, The Puppetry Parade.

Most programming is free, with separate ticketed experiences available. Check the official site for the schedule and admission details, and give yourself time to explore rather than treating it as a quick stop.

Celebration in the Oaks — Beginning November 27, 2026

For a late-fall trip that overlaps with the holiday season, Celebration in the Oaks begins November 27 and runs through January 1, 2027.

This City Park holiday light tradition offers another reason to venture beyond the French Quarter. Visit the official event website for current experience options and ticket information before planning your evening.

Back at the Hotel: Room Service Without the Formalities

After the exploring, the photographs, the spa, and the jazz, there were chicken tenders delivered to the room.

I appreciate a lovely hotel. I also appreciate familiar comfort food at the end of the day.

That combination feels much closer to how I actually travel than an itinerary where every meal and every moment needs to be impressive.

The Ritz can be part of the experience without becoming the entire trip. Go out, enjoy New Orleans, and leave yourself enough time to appreciate where you’re staying.

My Suggested Essentials for Exploring New Orleans

For this kind of getaway, I’d keep the packing extras practical: something to carry your essentials and something for a change in the weather.

These are shopping suggestions, rather than claims that I personally tested each product on this trip.

Travelon Anti-Theft Classic Sling Bag

For city exploring, a sling bag is an option when you want your hands available for taking photographs while keeping everyday essentials together.

The Travelon Classic Sling Bag is worth considering if this style suits you. Check its dimensions against what you carry, and remember that security features don’t replace keeping track of your belongings.

Seniny Compact Travel Umbrella

A compact umbrella is a practical addition when your New Orleans plans involve spending time outside.

This Seniny folding umbrella is an option to consider for your day bag. Check the folded size and weight before choosing it—the most useful travel umbrella is one you’ll actually carry.

Skechers Arch Fit Glide-Step Wave Slip-ins

A New Orleans itinerary can turn into a lot of walking, especially when you keep stopping for photographs and deciding to explore one more street.

These Skechers combine a hands-free slip-in design with an Arch Fit insole system, making them an option to consider for your city-exploring wardrobe. The Lavender/Multi color adds a little personality, too.

Comfort is personal, so check sizing and give any new shoes a few longer walks before packing them. Your French Quarter afternoon shouldn’t double as a shoe-breaking-in experiment.
